Whispers of Tales
"People often have a dreamy idea of a harp, but it is so much more than that." Speaking is young Flemish harpist Mathilde Wauters, a top-notch musician pur sang. Like no other, she tells musical stories with her harp.
In Whispers of Tales, Mathilde Wauters takes us back to times when people filled long evenings with storytelling. Away from all the social media, TV and radio. "By telling each other stories, the darkness was lightened a bit and people traveled - imaginary - around the world," Wauters said.
Today, these customs seem more and more forgotten. Only our music still knows the old tradition ... Let yourself be carried away by this fairy-like and narrative music such as the Spanish Dances by Manuel de Falla, or La volière magique by Marcel Tournier and Ballade fantastique by Henriette Renié.
Mathilde Wauters is a go-getter and, although modest, she makes a big impression everywhere. She is already in the gallery of honor of Belgian harpists! At the age of 15, she was admitted to the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in the class of Sophie Hallynck as a young talent. She obtained her master's degree there with highest distinction in 2017.
Mathilde then perfected at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the class of Isabelle Moretti, where she received her master's degree with congratulations from the jury. Mathilde became laureate of several national and international competitions and since 2022 she has been solo harpist with the Residentie Orkest in The Hague.
