Rachmaninov & Mendelssohn - Residentie Orkest & Denis Kozhukhin

This RO NOW will be very special. Together we will search for the essence of beauty. Aesthetics, art, kitsch, personal taste, inspiration. It will all be discussed.

Mendelssohn and Rachmaninov, in their never-ending search for the very best, were also inspired by what they saw as beauty. In this case, the rich culture and music and beautiful landscape of Italy! And so they came back to new beauty, as evidenced by the fantastic music we will listen to this evening.

Tonight is a unique opportunity. Not only because of all the beauty we are going to hear, but also we will challenge you to philosophize together about the concept of beauty. We will do this together with a panel of three experts who, prior to the concert, will shed their light on this mysterious phenomenon from very different areas of expertise.

It promises to be a rich evening, hopefully bringing us new knowledge, insights and inspiration! Welcome to this special RO NOW with the theme: Quest for Beauty!

Rachmaninov & Mendelssohn

Since master pianist Denis Kozhukhin won the prestigious Elisabeth Competition in 2010, he has been going around the world like a whirlwind. Wherever and whatever he plays, audiences are delirious. As recently as 2022, he enchanted Amare with his performance of Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto. Now he returns to The Hague with another Rachmaninov, his Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini, definitely one of his best works. You can hear Italian passion and drama like never before, especially in Mendelssohn's sunny Italian symphony. Leading the journey through Italy is German conductor Ruth Reinhardt, a high-profile new face on international stages. She has already appeared before major orchestras worldwide and is now with us for the first time.
